Transforming the humble egg to a work of art.
How Victorian artist Jacklyn Foster is bringing everyday objects to life.
For regional Victoria’s Jacklyn Foster, being a full-time artist wasn’t always her plan.
Jacklyn was three weeks shy of completing her Occupational Therapy degree at Deakin University when she decided it was time to follow her dream of becoming a full-time artist.
Her leap of faith, which was scary at the time, has well and truly paid off, with several art exhibitions and collaborations with well-known brands such as Carlton Draught and Victoria Bitter.
Jacklyn specialises in still-life food and kitchen scenes, with many staples from Aussie households, such as Vegemite, a bag of party mix lollies and Milo, becoming regular featuresin her pieces, along with farm fresh eggs.

Her paintings capture everyday moments that evoke personal and nostalgic memories for many viewers.
“I love the sense of connection people get when they look at my art and the memories stirred by a simple kitchen object that I painted,” Jacklyn said.
“A typical Saxa saltshaker could bring back one memory for someone, but something completely different for another.”
Though most of Jacklyn’s time is filled with painting, most Fridays you will find her baking.
It has become a ritual for Jacklyn, allowing her to put down the paintbrush and find creativity in another way.
“I’m a sucker for routine, so I started dedicating time every Friday to baking and sharingwhat I have baked. It brings me so much joy.”
While eggs are a favourite subject matter for her art, they are also a staple in her kitchen.
Her favourite thing to bake is a classic chocolate cake, with the best part being able to lick the batter from the bowl at the end.
Aside from her delicious chocolate cake, a simple poached Pace Farm egg is her go-to breakfast, thanks to its versatility.
“We have a family breakfast every Saturday, so I love to add a poached egg, it has become a routine that is really precious for me,” Jacklyn said.
